EXWl'IJYE SUMMARY Approval 10 apply fur funds from The David and Locile Packard Foondation for the Volunteers for Cities Project was granted at the June 12. 1995 City Council meeting (CMR:30I:9S). An award in the amount 0($35,000 was graIlied on September II. 1995_ The graIl! funding will be utilized as follows: $30,000 will be allocated 10 the salary 0( a Coordinator of Volurueer Servic<:s. Under the supervision 0( !he Cily Manager's Office, !he coordinator will be responsible for implementing a citywide vo1urueer program. The cootdinator will assess !he volunteer needs in each department, partirularly those which have made limited use 0( vo!uuteers in the past, and then develop !he IOOIs 10 recruit. train, monitor and manage !he program volunteers. The coordinato< will develop effective working relatiooships with !he present departmental volunteer coordinators. AWARD TO FUND A VOLUN'l'EEP_ CCCRDlNATCR IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER WHEREAS. pursuant to the provisions of section 12 of Article III of the Charter of the City of Palo Alto. the Council 00 June 19, 1995 did adopt a budget for f-iscal year 1995-95; and WHEREAS~ volunteers are an important asset for the City of Palo Alto and the City Council has encouraged the use ~~ expansion of volunteer efforts in the City; and WH.ER:£AS. the ~ity aWlied to t.be David and LU<:'ille Packard Foundation for a grant in the amount of $3S.0'0·0 to encourage and expand volunteer efforts io City departments; and WHER.V-..5. the City was awarded a grant of $35 .. 0'0,0 on SeptenIDer 11. 1995. which will span fiscal years 1995-96 and 1996-97; and WHEREAS .. because t.he grc;.nt:. spans two fiscal years. a portion of t.he -grant is ~oposed to be spent in 1.99.5-96. and the remaining balance is proposed to be placed in the Budget St.abilization Reserve (BSR) for inclusion in the 1~96-97 proposed budget; and WHEREAS, City Council authorization is needed to accept ~~ expend the grant receipts. and to amend the 19'95-.95 budget as he~einafter set forth. NO$6 THEREFORE .. tbe Council of the City of Palo Alto does ORDAIN as follows: SECTION 1. Grant Revenue is increased by the sum of Thirty Five ~DOUsand Dollars {$35 .. 000) in the City Manager"s Office for receip~ of gran~ funds~ SECTION 2. The sum of Fifteen Thousand Dollar~ ($15~COO) is hereoy appropriated to salary expenses ~~ Five Thousand Dollars ($5 ... The Council of the City of Palo Alto hereby finds that the enactment of this ordi~~e is not a project under the California Environmental QJality Act and. therefore.. no environme~tal impact assessment is necessary.
