SUBJECT, SALES TAX ADJUSTMENT FOR VARIAN ASSOCIATES

Last week the City was informed that the State Board of Equalization (SBOE) bad made a
rufmg on an oppeaI filed by Varian Associates regarding a large sales tax a<fjuslment made
in 1981. In 1987, the City of Palo Alto received a large, one·time a<fjustmcnt for sales Ia."(
revenues lOOIIing $978,000. Th" SBOE has ruled on the appeal in Varian', favor, and will
