RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached Budget Amendment Ordinance
accepting the fee balances, deposits, and ,hipping 0( $8 ,000 into the 1995-96 Arts and
Cnlture Division', VlSUa/ Arts maja< activity budget for the traveling euuoition Marriage

EXECUTIVESVMMARY
Throughout fIscaJ year 1995-96, the Cultural Cen"" will be receiving fee balaoces and
shipping costs from the two remaining venues included in the nationa! lour 0( Marriage In
FomL They are as follow.: Fee balanc-."S 0( $1,000 from each venue for a Iota! 0( $2,000 and
a base foe prorated shipping c<><lS 0( $3,000 each for a IOta! 0( $6,000. The fee balaxes and
procated shipping costs, as pet the traveling exhibition contract for Marriage In Form, are
from the American Qafi Museum. New Yeri: City and the Art Museum, Rhode Island
School of Design. Providence, Rhode Island.
A grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. a federal .geoey, awarded \0 the
exhibition "Marriage In Form. "Ihrough the VJSUaI Arts Program. has allowed a nationwide
lOUr. The IOtIC. which included four other venues, The Arkansas Arts Center, Little Rock.
Arbnsas; The Forum 0( Cootempo<ary Art, St. Louis, Mi'SOwi; the Tampa Museum 0( Art,

Stocksdale, icons 0( American craft, have lived and worlr.ed in the San Francisco Bay Area
since the 1940's; their lives and art ,,"ve been rooted in the Poci!k rim. The e.ru'bition

FISCAL IMPACT
The \raveling e.ru'bitioD fee per venue is $2,000. The prorated shipping is divided among
the six venues at. cost 0( $3,000 per VeDue (see attached funding schedule), The receipl 0(
balance doe and shipping costs 0( $8,000 for the two remaining venues win occur .. ithin the
cunent fiscal year. n.e.e funds, whicb bave 00( been budgeled, .. ill provide foe shipping,
insuranee, and final disbursement 0( the e.ru'bition. The budget adjustmeDt ",ill h,,'e no
impact on the Cultural Center's presenllev.! of service.

)r~~1 ~rsuant to the prov~s~ons of Section 12 of Article
III. of the Charter of the City of Pa.lo· Alto .. the Council on June
19. 1995 did adopt a budget for fiscal year 1995-96; and
WHEREAS" the Viaual' Arta program has mounted a nat;onal
traveling art exhibition entitled -Marriage-in-FormM; and
WHEREAS.. the eXhibit will be shown at two remaining venue
sites; and
WHEREAS" the Community Services Depa.rtment -will incur expenses
for ~ving tbe exhibit; and
WHEREAS.... the expenses will be repaid througb fees and
reimbursement of shipping charges by the venue sites.

required to adopt this ordinance.

finds that the enactment of this ordinance is not a project under
the California Environ~ental ~ality Act and r tberefore. no
environmen,tal impact ass€'ssmen·t is necessary.
