RECQMMEI\oJlATiONS

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Stati<-a 4 is one of six roofs funded kr replacement under CIP 19514. This is a wood shake
roof which is more than 4tl years oIJ and has reached the end of its useful life . The expected
life span of this type of roof is approximately 30 year;. All related repairs 10 the sbeet metal,
roof deck, and roof structure will be made at this time. Plans and specificatioos were marled
\0 seven cootractors and live builders' exchanges on July 5, 1995, and subse<jnently picked up
by six contra..""tors, foe a!O!al ofthi."1een contractors. Bids were received from three qualified
contraCtor.; 00 July 25. ; 995, as listed 00 the attacbed summary (Attachn><nt A). The tbree
week bid period was adequate 10 ensure competltive bidding QIl • project of this size .. 1d
complexity. Staff has review.J all bids submitted and recommends that th.low bid, submitted
by Casto Roofiug, Inc, be deternllned by Council 10 be the lowest responsible bid and that Ibe
contract be awarded accocdingly. Bids ranged from • high of$4(),53O!o a low bid of 524,8>6.
The low bid is less than ODe percent below the Engineer's estimate of $25,000. Staff has
