Included in the City Manager's internal administrative policies and procedures is • poliq
providing direction cooceming the receipt of gifu to the City of Palo Alto. The pwpose of
this staff report is to comply with • provision in the policy that the City "'Ianager sball
periocficolly report 10 the City Council reganrmg the gi!ls which bave been accepted on
behalf of the City.
RECOMMENDATIONS
This is an infunnatiooal report and 00 Council aetioo is requested.

resources. Gifts may be material objects, cash, real property, 0< se .. \'k~. The policy is
meant 10 emphasize the importance of encouraging gifts 10 the City, promptly acknowledging
aod .>q>reSsing appreciation fur them, and assuring the gifts are properly inventoried 0<
acoounled for.
The procedures for implementing the policy es'.ablish thresbolds at which department heads
must notify the City Manager concerning the gifts that have been received by 0< offered 10
the City. The tbrcshoIds .... as ~ows: cash gifts of any amount; material gifts and services
with. value of SI,OOO or moee; any real property (real estate). Gifts offered 10 the City
wblch have an estimated value ofSS,OOO or moce will DOt be accepted until approved by the
City Ma'lllger. Gifts of real property of any value will DOt be acoept.:d until approved by the
City Council Major gifts often require City commltments, sud. as ongoing maintenance or
storage and security, thus consideration must be gives 10 their acceptance.
