APPROVING CONTRACT NO. 9~-SAO-O~047 BETWESN THE
tTNI'I'BD STATES OF AMERICA, OBPAA'IMENT OF SNBRGY,
WESTERN AREA POWER ADMINISTRATION, AND OEPARTMKN"T
OF THE INTERIOR. BUREAU OF JU!CLAMATION. AND
SINERAL LOCAL OOVERNME!o1T AGENCIES. INCLUDING T'dE

WHEREAS, the cities of Palo ~tO, Lcd! .. Redding. Roseville ..
and Santa Clara, the Sacramento MUnici~ Utility District, the San
FrancIsco Bay Area Rapid Transit District, and the ~Jrlock
Irrigation District have jointly agreed to finance the replacement
of stator windings for units 3, 4 and 5 of the Shasta power plant
of th~ Central Valley Project; and
WHEREAS, t.he City of Palo Alto's staff has determined that
the initiation of tbe replacemen·t of stator windings for units 1"
4 and 5 of the. Shasta power plant of t.he Central Valley Project
will result in .the future reductIon of higher -cost electrical power
capacity purchases for the City of Palo ~to; and
WHEit&AS" on January 4:" 1.995, the Utilities Advi80ry
Carmission reconmended: the CO\lIlCil"s approval -of t.he referenced
fund~ng agreemen~;

RESOLVE as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council bereby approves Contract l;o~
9~-SAO-OO04? with tbe united States of America and several local
government agencies as described above for the funding of
maintenance work at the Shasta power plant" and hereby authorizes
the Mayor to execute the contract on behalf of the City of Palo
Alto.
SECTION 2. The City ·Council fioos tbat t.he approval. -of
Contract 50. 9.-SAO-O~~47 does ~ constitute a project under the
California Environmental Quality ~ct, and" thus" no environmental
a~seasmeot Is required.
