signs of corrosion, are sLlbjeclIo rerurring breaks which cause eldensive maintenance
expencfrtures, 0( when !he materials of cons!rucllon prove 10 be inadequate. In very ok!
wsW systems, such as 1M one in Palo ~, some mains are inadequate in size 10 supply
\he tequiIed IIows and pressure for fire proIecIion-Staff bas identified \he mains in this

The proposed project will rep!a<:e 16,852 mear feet of water main s~.own on \he a!!acI1ed
map. Phase IX o(!he Water Main Replacement Project continues an apprOximate 75 year
replacement cycle for !he City's Water Distribution Sys!em.
INVITATION fOR BIDS
A request lor bids lor \he Phase IX Waler Main Repla<:emenl Project was &ent out 10 15
cootracIors and 6 building excllanges on May 5, 1995. Bids were received on May 3!t,
1995 i'om four contraclors, ranging from SI,185,77610 $1,645,242. Staff StJ<Veyed!he
