The existing gas mains included in !he project were insJailed in !he 1950'5 and !he 1960's
and haw experienced an above average incidence 0( leaKs due Ie !he extensive corTosion
{s1eeI mains) and fa!ig<Je fa~ure (Ac."}loojti]e 8u1ao'"<ene Styrene (ABS) mains) and are
n:reasingly ddl'icu!t Ie maintain. The sizes 0( Ihese exisfing mains are 00( adeqtJate Ie
supply If1e reqWed !low and pressure demand. Ie provide r.[jahle, safe, gas distribution.

INVITATION fOR 8fOS
A request for bids for !he Phase 5 Gas Main Replacement Project was sent out 10 five
contractors and lIvee b\J11ding exchanges by the Ci!y on May 16, 1995. The bids received
on June 6, 1995 from IIvee conlraClors, whicl1 staff feels ;,;a good response, ranged from
$.332.63S k> $515,700. were evalUliled by a hee perso., committee inckJding the Project
Engineer, Project Manager and !he Water-Gas-Waslewaler Engineering Manager and
ranked as shown in !he attached Sid Evaluation Summary (Exhibit ·S"). The Engineer'.
estimate for 1111. project is $417,000.
