Los Altos and Los Altos Hills expressed a preferen<e for CODInICtiog with the City of Palo Alto fa< mandated animal control and are semces. Staff devel<>ped proposals 10 provide limited or emergency services and calculated !be service levels ir each city, together wDh Cbe impact on animal control service 10 residents of Palo Alto. As a result, a one-year aw:eemcot WlIS signed wDh Los Altos Hills in AugusIl993. and was renewed Jlllle 16, 1994. Animal Control Off"icers are employees of Palo ~to. They are uniformed office~s cbarged vlth the responsibility ~ enforcing stat~ laws and city ordinances related to the care and proeectl00 of animals and Froperty. Each officer is a graduate of both the California State Humane officer Academy and the Humane Society Of the United States Animal Cootrol Academy. Officers shall receive four hours of advanced enforcemeot and customer relatione training t~om Palo Alto each year. SUpervision of the Animal Control Officers~ ~ennel Attendant aDd supplemental office staff is the responsibility of the SUpervisor of Animal Services. Thie full-time employee is responsible to the SUperintendent of Animal services~ and together with the SUperlntenden~. shall a~sure responsive supervisIon sevee days a week.. The SUperio·tendent shall address policy issues of Interest to Agency officials and staff~ and ac~ as liaisoo with Palo Alto staff and ~ficia18. and shall be ~esponsible for overall contract compliance. UDder this agreement, Animal Control Officers shall respond to emergency s~rvice, and ehall endeavor to arrive at the scene within thirty (30) minutes r Palo Alto shall provide the necessary personnel to service Agency as set ou~ in Section 1 of the Exhibitr s. Equippent. Palo Alto shall provide its staft use o·f an animal control vehicle. fully equipped with a mobile radio, ~ages and safety equipment, designed tor animal CODtrol and transportation. The door and hood of each vehicle shall be clearly marked with the words ·ANIMAL CONTROL.· The vehicles used shall be three­ quarter ton trucks, with specially built caging areas separate from the officer.· Compartment.
