This report is to inform the Council that the City has been awarded a 1994 Public
Technology Inc, (PTl) Technology AchieYemenl Award in the category of Computer
Technology and Telec<Jmmunications, for an entry entitled "Driving the Information
Superhighway with Internet'. This is • disti nguished honor, Over 250 entries were
submitled nationwide and only 12 earned a Technology Achievement Award, The Award
was announced No,'ember 18, 1994 .rod presenled al the Nation&! League of Cities (NLC)
Conference on December 2, 1994 by PTI, the NlC's nonprofit te<:hno!ogy group,
The City's innovation has been summarized in • booklet of PTI 1994 Award winners, and
was incorporated into a multimedia presentation that was unveiled at Tech City, a
technological display a! the NLC Congress of Cities in Minneapolis, Minnesota, D<<<rnber
1-4, 1994, PTI will also be distributing press releases to national .nd specialized local
government media, and publishing our submission in the thirteenth annual edition of local
government case studies, Solurions Jor Technology Shoring Local GovemmenJ 94, In the
past seven years, the City has won two first pl."" awards in 1993 and 1991 and five special
mention awards in 1987-1990, 1993.
