The underground electric dislOOulion syslern in !he project area was installed
approximately 30 years ago. The high-voltage cab'es and eq<Jipmenl has deterioraled and
requite rep!a<:emenl Since the cables were buried alrectly in !he ground, ralller "'an
placed in conduits, Ioeafing and isolating failed sectioos 0( cables is be<x>ming ncreaslngly
diflicul!, time-ronsuming and expen..<ille.
Replacement wil be performed by installing underground condu11 in !he pubrlC rigIlt.of.way
and tieing 1I'.is new conduit inlo the existing electric "nsfo,-mer _.ulls and prlmary boxes.
New cables will be installed in !he..<e condUiIs. Since a large port;on 0( !he reITab<1ity
problem has been a resu~ 0( """"rground Irar.sformer and connec!ion ranures, new
above-ground pad-mounfed Iransfonners and connection cabinets wil also be ",s!alled.
The lransfomlers are aboo! 30 i'>ches l1igh and 3 feet square. High voilage connec!ion
boxes are 42 lncI1es wide. 20 i'>ches high and 25 inr.l\es d""P. In order 10 screen lI1e
pad-<T.ounIed equipment, landscaping will be provided around the eq<Jipmenl wI1ich will
malch the ~xis!ing landscape and !errai" in !he neigl>borhood. landscaping design was
approved by the !oWn arcMed.
