SUBJECT: Award of Contract for the Regional Water Quolity Control
pw.t W.,..house Mezzanine Modifications Project
REQUEST
This .repOrt requ~sts that Council awa.rd a contract to Silicon Valiey Shelving &,
Equipment Co. Inc. (SVS) in the amount of t35,6l1.19 to modify the mezzanine in the
RWQCP warehou~e to meet safety requirements.
RECDMMENDATIONS
L Staff recommends that Council ;.pprove and audlOriu the Mayor to execute the
atTAched. co.otrut ".,j.th SVS in the amount of S35,031.19 for modifiC<ltlous to the
RWQCP warehou;e mezzanine.
2. Staff also recommends that Council authorize the City Manager or her designee
to ut'%otiate and execute one or mere cha..."lge urdeis for a total change order
amount not to exceed S5,OX. This r:ontingency m3.Y be needed to ~djust for
unforeseeable difficulties with attachment of new support:; te the existing facility.
POI ICY IMPLICATIONS
This project is comistent ",ith the est>blished policy to provide employees a safe
working environment which meets OSHA standards.
EXECllDYF SUMMARY
This project will address two safety concerns. The contract will replace the existing
tempor.uy ladder with a permanent access to the warehouse Ine:z.zanmc. n'..eeting OSHA
sundard •. The modifications will also pro>'ide additional space and. consequently will
reduce the vertical sucking height tha, .,·ould otherwise interfere with the effectiveness
of the fire sprinklers. The shoner sucking height will also reduce the impacts of falling
objf'\...'"tS during seismic activities.
The project was advenistd for bid in -accordance with City requirements. Invitations
for bid were issued to four contractors l but only one responded with a bid. Staff
