In J 987, Council added an hourly positioo in the Public Works Ref""" Fund op<T1lting budget
for bandsweqJing of sidewalks in the two downtown areas. The time allocated 10 each business
district w .. , based 00 the total area of sidewalk in the respectiYe districts, In the =1 fiscal
year, the boorly position was converted 10 a regular full·time positiOf1, Sta.ff has complcted the
hiring process for a regl.llar employee; and, in addition, ha'l recently added contract s.ervi~ to
supplement work efforts in both busin.;-$s dislricts.
The contract services will be used from June through December (peak usc period) to supplement
the regular staffand provide two days of coverage (Sundays and Monda)':;) in addition to th~
normal Tuesday through Saturday sllIff scheduled wor\;.,
These services have been added in response to increases in business activity and rc-suJtant
accumulation of trash over the past several months.
