No change in City policy is reque'ted.
EXECUTIVE SIiMMAID'
Gifts can provide stJplX)rt for and/or augment prograrru beyond th~ Citis available resources.
Gifts may be material objecls, ca~h. real property. or seTVi~s. The policy is mrant to
emphasize the importance of encouraging gifts to the City, promptly acbov.kdging and
expressing appreciation for thorn, and assuring tho gifts are properly inventoried or .~counle<i
for.
The procedures for implementing the policy .sublish thresholds at which departm,nt heads
must notify the City Manager concerning t~e gitis that have been received by or ofiw:d to
the City. The thresholds are as follows: cash gifts of any amount; material gifts and services
with. value of $1,000 or more; any real property (real estate.) Gifts offered to the City
which have an estimated value of $5,000 or more will not be accepted until approved by the
City Marulger. Gifts of real pWP<'rty of any value win not be accepted until approved by the
City Council. Major gifts often require City commitments, ~uch as ongoing maintenance O[
storage and security, thus consideration must be given to' their acceptance.

It is important to note that the gifts reported here do not include the volunteer hours which
an> contributed to the City by so many persons. Furthennore. this report does not address
tho exlmsive contributions to the Centennial organization, which is distinot from the City of
Palo Alto.
