EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The present Ioca!ioo cllhe dog run at MitcheIl Put was established in 1972, approximately
two years &fieT the development of the Stevenson House. Due 10 the social and econooUc
changes oilhe IasI two decades, and Ibe more restricti"" animal eonlrollaws. the use of the
dog run has increased drama1i<:al1y.
Police Animal Services Division and Community Servkes Department bave woo.ed
diligently since 1991. to alle",ate complaints regarcftng the noise and odO< problems
associated with the Mirchell Pm Dog Run. The residenls oflhe Stevenson House have been
very patient and appreciative of staff's elfor1s to mitigate the problems. but the problems

This procedure can be continued at !be c:w site, bol • cleaner method of disposal shooId be
developed 10 alleviate the odcr problems lS"",ialed with .. ""k a primi\iVl: disposal method,
especially with !be iaQ:e volume 0( dog waste involved. Staff will p<ifSUe other alternatives;

OF THE MITCHELL PARK DOG RUN
Because of continuing problems with noise, sanitation and drainage _at the present
dog play area at Mitchell Park, the City of Palo Alto Parks Department is
considering relocating the run. There will be a meeting for intereste.d pet ov;ners
to pro~ide S'..!ggestions and comments em possible new locations and the features that
should be built into a new play area. _

volunteer to Ilelp on dJe construction of a new "run; and foe the Citv staff to listen
to suggestions for features that are important in the design of a ne~ play area.
