This report is to update the Council as to how box office services will be provided after August 31, 1994. 'agkgrouu, The Box Offica l which is currently operated by the Council for the Arts Palo Alto Area (CAPA)I will close on August 31, 1994. Since 1978, CAPA has been operat.inq the box office on a break-even basis. They Anticipated a loss in revenue which could not be absorbed in 1994 .. 95 due to chanqes by Playez;s and TheatreWorks in their sch.edulin9 and tiCKiilt handling arrangernentc. The primary usors have been Palo Alto Children's Theatre l Palo Alto Players, Tb$atreWorks# and West Bay Opera. The Director of Arts ana CUlture investigated the possibility of providing the same box office services through other E):atablished outlets such AS Stanford's Treeside.r Box Office ana Sass Tickets. These proved too expensive for the users. pi'QUssioA palo Alto Players, TheatreWork:s, and West Bay Opera will continue to sell their own season tickets as thay have for several years~ They will now also Gell individual tickets, through their Olrm phone and mail systems, and will share space in the existing city Box Office according to their needs for presale~ Ea~h company will sell its tickets in the box office space immediately prior to performance.s. Schedulinq of the box otfice has been completed and that service will be ~ade part of the user contracts. Staff has put in place a system to allow the Children's Theatre will sell season tickets and individual tickets directly from the Children's Theatre facility.
