I am pleased to present for your approval ths apPointment of :Ruben Grijalva as Fire Chief for the city of Palo Alto. As you ar.e aware, Ruben has been scrvinq as Acting Fire-Chief; and I have selected him after an extensive search to replace former Chief Wall. Before coming to Palo Alto as Assistant Fire Chief in January of 1990) Ruben served as Fire Marshal for the City of Sunnyv.:.le~ While Assistant Fire Chief in Palo Alto, Ruben had the oV8:J:'all responsibility for the Fire Operations Division including manaqe&ent of the fire suppression, tr.alning , paramediC, SL..~C, and hazardous materials response programs. He has co-authored or contributed to several recent Fire Service publications and provided leadership in the development and adoptLon of the County.wide toxic gas .ordinance. As Assistant Fir. Chief for Palo Alto, he had overall responsibility for the Fire Operations Dh<ision including management of the fire suppress;on, training. paramedic, SUe, and the bazardous malerials response programs. Since 1918, CAPA has be~n oporating the bo~ office on a break-even basis. They anticipAted a 10s8 in revenue which could not be absorbed in 199'-95 due to changes by Players and TheatreWorks in their ochedullnq and ticket handlio9 arranqements. They will now alBo sell individual tickets, through their own phone and mail systems, and will share space in the existing city Box Office according to their needs for presale.
