includes the maia Lucie Stem ccmplex. the Junioc Museum and the Children 'J Library,
Mi1<:hen Parl< Community Center and Librazy, and Newen Site whicb includes the Main
Library and Cultunl Center; and approval (J( an amendment 10 Contract C4044918 with
Lewis & Tibbitts Inc. 10 install conduit between buildings at each site Ihrough which
Cablelron will pun fiber optic cable.

la FY 1992-93, the CilJ begatllO ins!JlIl the infrastructure nc=ssary 10 coonect remole
facilities for comPOIU and data commu~Jcatioos. The RegiooJU W.~r Quality Coolrol PIanI
and all three buildings at the MUnicipal Se.-.Ke Center l,av. been conne<:led 10 the wide area
network (WAN). To enable (II.'>er ",mole facilities 10 connect 10 the WAN, local area
nelWorb(LAN) IIeCd 10 be installed as each fa..-ility first. Three Community Services
Depsr!menl OOIities were identified as the DeJd facilities 10 be ronnected 10 the WAN
because of 1hcir need 10 <:onnecl 10 City HaD foe the class regislnltion and facilities
sche4u1ing software, the Libruy automation program thaI needs access 10 the high speed
Jnterne( ronnection at City HaD, and for on-fine timekeeping and mission driven budgeting
purposes.

A request foe proposal (RFP) ...... issued 10 I S vendors in Oc1ober. Four written responses
and two vernal "no' responses we ... =-.'ved. Of the four written responses, dtree ioolC&!ed
thaI their scheduled worldoad would DOt allow participation. The two verbal responses
indicated that thio ins!JlIlation was DOl in their area of expertise. The Purchasing Division
COIIIaCIed two additional vendors who !-.ad DOC responded 10 the RFP, and they both
maintained that sche4u1ing problems was the reason foe DOC responding. The other seven

modificatioo 10 the outside of City facilities, Jim Gilliland. project manager of the City
Architect cootract, approved Ms. Cordy HiD of ROYSlon. Hal-.amolo, A!Iey &: Abey 10 (this
is the company thal was awarded the architect review contract). to meet wit!, staff and
review Cabletron's pr<JP06"d design (see AttadHnent A of the contract). All of the City
Archirect', recommend.1ions have beeu included ill the design being proposed for approval
in the Cabletrcn contract
FISCAl, IMPACT
Cabletron proposeo \i:) provide the design. development. materials and installation services
fat compleling three Ioca! area network! for $73.361.24. A contingency of $6.000 is
