change orders to the contract in an IIIIlOWIl no! to exceed SII,25O (CMR:~:94). The
~ work for !he demolition of.the building was started <in January 3. 1995. The
. zemovaI of the roof and !he walls 00 !he wcsl, north and east sides has been <:O!I1pleted.

In crdcr to avoid any damages 10 the building at gS3 Alma Street, changes aru=/uired
'" the demolition procedure specified in the contract. The recommended method for
. demolishing tbe remaining south wall is by uslng'haDd tools. To Ivoid excessive noise
at 853 AIma. this wort will have to be performecI on weekends. The estimated cost is
$22,OOS.

Fuods for this project are included in the FY 1994-95 E1ecIric Fund, Capital Improvement Progtam. .
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

~S(P) (Commercial Downtown Service SllbdiSirict with a Pede.otrian. Overlay) 10 PF
(Public Facilities). This chang< permits use of tile site tor expansioo of the ""!>station..
Cooncil also directed the ARB to require a solid fence design for the temporary fe"". to
be COIISIruC:Ied along the SOIIlhem portion of!be site's Alma StrccI frootag<. The S<ilid
fence design. ~ approved by the ARB on Oc!ober 26, 1993. A&r completic!l of the
wOO< by Fenna Corporation. • local artist will install • mural aJOIlg the Alma Street
frooIage.
Utilities staff plans to replace the aging 4KV equipment with new 12KV equipment m the
substation. This plan was approved by !be Coancil in the i 992-1997 Capital Improvement
Program budgrt The project will also include coosttuction of a permanent fence to
rep!ace the temporary solid wood fence. The design of the permanent fence will follow
the guidelines in !be Downt<>Wn Urban. PIaD and will be submitted 10 ARB fb£ approval.
