June 23, 1994 THE HONORABLE CITY COUNCIL Palo Alto, California ~ '-if Contract to Redwood plumbing Company Tnc. for.till! Regional water Qua] ity Control I') aut Tncl aeratgr praj n Rep} ac.enumt.. Project fo.teffibers of the Council: Report jn Brigf This report recommends that the Council authorize the Hayor to execute the attached contract with Redwood Plumbing Company, Inc., in the amount of $68, ,72, t.'J replace the existing incineratol.· drain at the Regional Water Quality Control Plant (RWQCP). l<'unds have been appropriated in the eIP 39591, Plant Equipment Replacement. The RWQCP operates two incinel-ators as pal."t of its process. The incinerators and their auxiliary piping were installed in 1970. The wastewater from the incinerator is corrosive in nature and is recycled back to the plant process for treatment. The drain that cau.'ies the recycle flow has been partially corxoded -<'md is leaking into the incinerator basement. The leak is 'inaccessible for repair without major structural work and is impossible to line due to the telfLpet'ature of the wastewater, This project will replace a portion of the existing drain to bYlJass the leak. The construction for this project will be within a restrictive and difficult ..... orking area. The process requires special materials and constl'uction methods and ..... ill t'equi:t:e excavation in areas where there are unde:cgro\md utilities. Exact locations and inverts of these utilities cannot be determined until the area is exposed. ,".> , \, 6 ! I 1 . I (' .. ~ .... . 1;, The invitation for bid ... }a~ ieoued to oix contractol.'s.
