This is an informational report and does not require Council
actioQ~ This report is to inform the council of two technology
awards the City received on December 6~ 1993 from the National
League of Cities' nonprofit technology group, Public Technology,
Inc. (porI): Technology .~chievement Award in the Community and
Bconomic Devel~aent category for the City's submission entitled
"New Revenue from Conduit Occupa."1CY Leasing", and a Special Mention
Award in the Leisure Services and Libraries categcry for the
submcission entitled -Library Link: Connecting Sight and Mobility
Impaired ~ith Library MaterialS'4
PTI is a nonprofit research, development and com:r.ercialization
organization that helps cities and counties better ser~e citizens~
create new revenues and improve productivity. PTI is the technical
arm of the National League of Citiea~ th~ National Associatiml of
Counties and t.he International City/County Management Association.
Annually~ PTI conducts a Technology Achievement Award program.
Jurisdictions across the United States and Canada are asked to
submit innovations tha.t r..ave been implement-ed in t.heir city or
county over the past year. There are thirteen award categories as
desc:r:ibed in the attached brochure. In the past six years, the
City has won one first place a~Qrd in 1991 and four speCial mention
awards in 1987-1990.

The City af Palo Alto has been awarded two 1993 PTI Technology
Achiev~~nt Awards. The Technology Achievement Award ~~s in the
Community and Bconomic Development category for the City's
s~~sBion entitled ~New Revenue f~om Conduit Occupancy Leasing~
and the Special Mention Award was in the Leisure Services and
Libraries category for the submiBsion entitled IILibrary Link:
COTh'"lecting Sight and Mobility Impaired with Librarj Materials·.

from cities and counties across the United State~ and Canada.
Only twelve earned a Technology Achievement Award and only t~enty
