This report reco@mends that Council award a contract to Ha~sen.
Reed &: Christensen in the amount of $123 .. 254 for structu!"al
improvements and remodel of dormito~· and restroom facilities at
Fire Station 2. Fund6 have beer. appropriated in elP 18926, Fire
Station Dormitory Modifications, a~d elP ~8S0a, Public Buildings:
Structural Improvements.
Background
This project will modify locker, bath and dormitory facilities in
Station ~ to p~~vide separate facilities and privacy for male and
female firefighters. Re~~ired structural repairs, as noted in elP
18508. will also be made to this facility.
Discussion
Fifty-five bid packages were se.n.t out and bids yer~ rece.ive.d from
~2 qualified contractors, as shown on the attached summary
{attachment Al. Staff recommends that the bid of $123.254.
submitted by Hansen, Reed & Christen6~n, be determined by Council
t.o be the lowest rasponsible bid a.nd ':hat the contract. be a.warded
accordingly~ This bid is 37 percent below the engineer's estimate
of $1.96,000. The current construction market is very competitive
due to the economic climate and the: seascnal schedule of the
project. St.aff has contacted the contracto:r r s references, received
favorable feedback, reviewed and verified the bid price with the
contractor and haSi deterrrtined Hansen. Reed &: Christensen to be the
lowest responsible bidder. Based on the type of work that is being
done, we are requesting a 20 percent. contingency to provide for any
unforeseen conditions.

California Environmental Qua.lity Act (CEQA) under Section 15301
(existing facilities) of the CEQA Guidelines.
