Report iA Brief
The purpose of this report is to request Council's approval of an
ordinance amending the buoget for fiscal year 1993-94 to retlect
the award of a $10,000 matching grant from the National Endowment
tor the Arts, a federal aqency# to the Arts and CUlture Division's
CUltural Center exhibition, "Marriage In Form: Kay Sekmachi and B~b
stocksdale.-
Background
The Nationa~ Enaowment for the Arts has awarded a first ti~e grant
tor special exhibitions to the Visual Arts Program for the current
fiscal year. These funds have been designated for general support
and traveling of the exhibition -Marriage In Form.-The eXhibition
is a 30 year retrospective of two of Alnerican craft's foremost
master artists. "Marriaqe In Form N , along with the accompanying
catalogue, makes a major contribution to the history of American
craft. Kay Sekimachi ana Bob StocJcsdale are icons of American
cr~:ft, and have lived and worked in the San Francisco Bay Are-a
since the 1940's, their lives and art rooted in the Pacific rim.
The exhibition continues our efforts to reach a broad mOll ticul tural
population. The ftmds will strengthen the q~ality and visibility
of th& exhibition and education progra~, and thereby increa3~ the
audience for the visual arts.
Punding
The National Endowment for the Arts grant provides matChing funds
for the exhibition, which includes crating' of the exhibition~
supplies and materials, equitable artists' and lecture fees,
outreach and public relations materials, and publications. Funds
in the amount of $10,000 necessary to match the qrant have been
budqeted in the Visual Arts Program budget for 1993-1994.

ORDIN~~CE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1993-94
TO PROVIDE '$ ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION
TO THE ARTS AND CtJL'I"URE DIVISICN'S VISUAL ARTS PROG~
AND TO RE(:EIVE MATCHING GRANT FUNDS
~S, pursuant to the provisions of section 12 of Article
III of the Charter of the city of Palo Alto, the Council on June
21, 1993 did adopt a bUdget for fiscal ye~r 1993-94; and
~, the N~tional Endowment for the Arts (NEA) provid~s
matching grant funds for special exhibitions; and
WHEREAS, the NEA has awarded the Visual Arts program a first
time qrant for the general support and traveling of the exhibition
-Marriage In Form~; and
~S, the funds will strengthen the quality and visibility
of the exhibition and eaucation program in Visual Arts; and
WHEREAS, the necessarz fundinq to match the qrant is available
in the Visual Arts 1993-94 operating budget;
NOW, THEREFORE, the council Qf the city of Palo Alto does
ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. The SUIrI of Ten Thousand Dollars {$l.O .. 000) is
hereby appropriated to contract services in the Visual Arts program
of the Arts and CUlture Division, and Grant Revenue is
correspondinqly increased.

SECTION--.J,. The Council ot the city of Palo Alto hereby finds
that the enactment of this ordinance is not a project under the
California Environmental Quality Act and, therefore, no environmen
t61 impact assess.ent is necessary.
