During events hold at stanford stadiuB, resld~nt9 in tho southgate
neighborhocxi have historically been incolwenionccd by attendees at
these events, and the restricted parkin9 practices that have btH)n
used have resulted in nu~erous problens (or those residents. In
order to lessen the i~pact created by the upconing World CUp Soccer
Games and. the associated traffic and parking prQblel!.s in that
neighborhood, staff intends to restrict the actual entry into that
area anr1 allow only residents to enter on ,gC!l'::C d~)'s.

For previous events held at Stanford stadiu1!I, pa:rking in the
Southgate neighborjl0od has been restr.icted. Ho\o<ever, this practice
has not r<1so1ved the problei'i"ls associated with tr.oific and p<lIr)dnq

problems for tho rosidents. BecausQ the streets In that area aro
rather narrow. enorgency vehicle access has been hal'lpered by
vehicles blocking the. roadway and parking on both sides of the
streets. Durin9 the World Cup Soccer Games, n ,a:.uch larqQr problem
is expected, due to the $20 fee that will bo charged to park in
stanford lots.
To ~inimize tho congostion and safety issues, access to tho ar~a on
game days w.lll be limited to residents. 'l'hll affected streat-s (sea
attached map) will include Mariposa, Castilleja , E'scobita, H1\drono,
portola, Manzanita, Miramonte, Se.quoia, and £1 Camino frontage.
police Explorer Scouts I supervised by police officers, will be
posted at each entrance into tho neighborhood to provido access to
residents and emergency vehicles and to prevent entry by game
attendees. The barrier at Castilleja and Park AV6nuo will be
temporarily removed to create an additional entry/exit point.
staff will notify southgate residents about the plan on two
separate occasions: four weeks prior and one week prior to the
first game.
