At the December 13, ~993 City Council meeting <CMR:61.3;9~} i Council
directed staff of the Public works Departmenc and the Social and
Community Services Department to implement a Graffiti Management
Program. F.lements of the Program include the following~
~. A ~4 hours per day Graffiti Hotline that is available to
receive requests for graffiti removal information;
2. A Hotline Coordinator is available from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m .• to answer the hotline. and process removal requests and
referrals to appropria!:e agencies and ent.er information to t:i:le
graffiti data base;
3. A graffiti removal person, with a dedicated van, who inspects
and cleans up graffiti; and
4 + A Volunteer Coordinator who .. ill set up volunteer removal
activities and provide con-.munity outr-each efforts.
The Program officially began on February 1. 1994~ The Rotline has
been activated and the Hotline coordinat.or. removal person and the
vcllli,teer coordinator are in place.
Since the program inception, February 1994 t.hrcugh March 14, 1994,
324 removal requests have been received: 128 from the Hotline. and
the rest from employees working in the field. Work orders have
been generated for 230 locations; and 94 calls have been referred
to outside agencies or are on private property. Approximately c'ne
third of all calls for g.t"aifiti removal are on property that does
not belong to the City.
Residents received initial program information through a utility
bill insert, a press release was i6SU~d to local newspapers and a
pamphlet in the final design stages is expected to be diEtributed
at City fdcilities and neighborhood associations.
