Landfilling Palo Alto residents have become familiar with the City Rscycling and Composting Programs and are act ively participating I and so this year the Recycling prOgram will be focusing publ ic educat:ion efforts on waste prevention and reuse. As part of this effort, staff will be sponsoring a Citywide garage sale on Saturday, March 26, 1994. from 9:00 a.m. to 4:QO p.m. The Citywide Garage Sale will allow residents to sell ~~wanted. yet reusable items. Several ads have been placed in t,he Palo Alto Weekly inviting residents to complete an application, if they are interested in holding a garage sale. All addresses of garage sale participants will be advert.i zed in the Palo Alt,o Weekly. Participants will be provided with a "Garage Sale Xi t," that includes signs to be used in frent of their home, Mllnicipal Code sign reg'.J.latio:ls, tipa on how to hold a successful garage sale, and a list of locations where unsold i~~ms can be donated afcer the sale. One week after the event, a postcard 'Will be rr.ailed to all partiCipants to remind them to remove all signs. -1- '. -~"--"' ---------"'".,---- The Citywide garage sale is a sanctioned event of the Palo Alto Cer.tennial. In keeping with the Cente~~ial theme~ the application will also include a reminder that the Palo Alto Historical Association is i~terested in a.ny Palo Alto memo!."abilia. The goals of the Citywide garage F-ale are to reinforce the idea of reuse and to familiarize residents with yeuse outlets in Palo Alto.
