At its meetitlg of June 21 .. 1.5193, Council requested addit.ionsl
information from st.ff regardinq the agreement betwe~n t.he City a04
the fundraiser for tbe CUbberley Community Center. This
intoroDational report respontls to that request, and no council
action is require4.
After disoussions-vitb the CUbberley tenants an~ reviewinq
fun4raising effortq for tbe first six months of 1993, staff bas
chosen not ~o renew the agreement. with the ~urrent fundraiser at
tbis time. Tbe lack ot support for tbe "Come AS 'You Were o.r Wish
You Had Been" party and: for CUbberley fundrllisi::o.g in general has
c;.a.use4 star! to re-eva.luate funtlrraisinq st~.tI&9Y. In addit.ioD,
there are a siqDiticant number of major fundraisinq e~torts in the
eoamunity nov, and there are ~imited resources available for the
non-profit orqAni~ations in tbe area. As a result, statf wants to
take another look at ~he CUbber~ey fundr~isin9 proqram and at the
lonq-ranqe CXP proqram to determine whether another approach may be
appropri.te~
At first review .. it appears that some o~ the proposed projects may
not ~e necessary or might be reduced in scope. staff ~ill return
to Council in the fall with the results of this review. If it is
determined tbat birinq a tUn4raiser continues to be the best
option, staff vi11 init.iate an RFP fer tbat purpose.
