Members of the Council:
This is an informatior. report~ No Council action is requ~sted.
Attached is an updat.e of the city's action this year to date,
relating to the status of pending state ~~d federal legislation.
These actions are based on existing legislative positions adopted
by the council.
The status Report refer.ences "Joint Rule 61". This term refers to
the. State Legislature's Rules of Orcler which establishes the
schedule for bills to be heard in the legislature. Two important
deadlines have recently passed;
June 11
June 15
Last day for hills to pass their house of oriqin.
Legislation which dces not meet this deadline
automatically becomes a two-year bill.
The Constitution requires that the State budget must be
passed by lllidnight. State legislators failed to me;;!t
this deadline (tor which therE! is no penalty) and are
continuing to work on the budget.
Staff is monitoring several adliitional bills 'w'hicb_ may have the
potential to impact the city and its operations. Staff will report
back to Council on these bills in future status reports as these
bills work their 'Way through the lEgi.slative process.
