This report requests that council appra"'e an on-call contract w-ith
Zongar Johnson Constru~tion for park equipment repair and
l1laintenaT,ce~ This is a three year contract, rene .... able annually;
not to exceed $201;000. Funds have been budgeted in the Parks and
Golf Division 1993-94 operating budget ($23;000); in the
Recreatior" Open Space and Scie_nces 1993-94 operating budget
($4,000); and in CIP 19415, Fark Facilities Improvements ($40,000).
Funding for the second and third }'cars is contingent upon Council
approval of the 1994-95 and 1995-96 operating and c~p budgets.

since 1983~ th~ City has contracted for park equipment repair and
maintenance:~ 'I'he bulk of the work involved is for the Parks and
Golf Division; h~~ever. Foothills Park and other open space areas
are also part of the contract. 'The term of this contract is for 12
months ar,d ~r.dy be extended for additioncl 12 rnont.h periods, up to
a maximum of 36 consecutive mont:t'1s. The first and second ye.ar
hourly rate is firm as bid, at $40.00 per he-ur, and not to exceed
$67,000 per ye3r. Negotiations · ... ,ill begin 60 days prier to the
24th montb anniv~rsary date. to reach a ~utual agreement to extend
the contract tor a th~rd year.
This contract, which includes repairs, maintenance and installation
of. park furniture, benches, playground eq"..lipment and fences, has
been a critical part of park maintenance opcrations~ It provides
flexibility to perfcrI7l preventive mair;tenance: correct safety
hazards dnd maKe rep,::d:-s in a timel:r' fashion. The contract
:requires response to routine repairs \o,ri thin seven days and
emergency repair .... i t.h in 24 hours.
A Notice Inviting: Formal Bids .... 'as sent to five qualified
cantracto~s. zongar Johnson Construction was the only co~pany to
return a bid.

DivisiQn.

be raised for long in any single lacaticn in accordanc~
with the citi of Pa.io Alto Noise Ordinance, Chapter 9.10
of the Municipal Code,
2. Supervision: CONTRACTOR shall give personal supervision
