Inc._, DBA Drain Patrol M~~ers of the Council: Rgport in Brief: This rep.crt re.commends that the council approve the attached contract ~ith American Alliance Always Available l Inc~, DBA Drain Patrol in an amount not to exceed $125,000 for sewer lateral maintenance service, on a reqular basis, and authorize the Mayor to execute such contract. FUnds for this specific purpose have been included in the Department cf Utilitie~ budget for FY 1993-94. Sewer lateral maintenance 'Was first contracted in the second half of FY 1989-90 on an experimental basis. As a result of the success of the experiment, th~ program was extended, and three-year contracts ~e~e executed in 1990 with two contractors. For Fiscal Year 199::-93, the city rene-wo'ed the contract with only one contz;actor rather than splitting the contract between the two, Experience has proven that a single contractor, carefully chosen. can manage the workload. Dispatching se .... ·er calls to only one contractor has significantly si!:lplified such tasks as re'J"ie:wing billing, evaluating claims tha.t result from se"'er backup:;, and providing ac~ountability for ser,ices performed while at the customsrs' residence.
