Software Maintenance Contract
Members of the council:
This report requests that Council approve ana authorize the Mayor
to execute the attached contract with the firm of J.P. services,
for performance of required software maintenance for the City's
Supervisory Cont~ol and Data Acq~isi~ion system (SCADA System).
The cost for this contract will be $20,000.00 and the funds are
available in the F~ 1993-199~ Electric Operating Budget.
Background
The Utilities Department SCADA Sy~tem is used primarily to
monitor and Control the electric transmission and distribution
systems, and is locateC! at the Utilities Control Center~ The
SCADA System 'was ori',;inally deoigned, purchased from and
installed by the consulting finn of Landis and Gyr using hard ... 'are
and soft .... 'are components approved by the City.
J.P. Services has been the software and database contractor for
the city of Palo Alto Electric Operaticns' SCADA System for the
last five (5) years. They have 19 years experience working .. ith
SCADA systems and have a history of providing excellent response
to our requests. J.P. Services has a thorough understanding of
our SCADA System and is currently in the proces.s of compiling a
report program for use by Utilities Engineering and Substation
staff~

The programs and support involved are critical to the operation
or the system .:and ~.ust be maintained on a regular basis.
FUnding
Funds for this program have been budgeted in the FY 93-94
Electric Operations Budget.
Recommendation
Statf recommends that council authorize the Mayor to approve the
attached softWare maintenance aqreetr.e!1t W'ith :; .P. Services,
effective July 1, 1993.
