Agreem.ent Members of the Council: Report in Brief This report requests that Council approve th~ Police nepartmer~t.' s continued participation in the CAL-ID atito!'r.dted fing~rprint syste:n. Funding has been ir-~ch:ded in the proposed 1993-94 Police Depart:nenc budget. Background On Ja..'1uary 1, 1986, Senate Bill 190 provided for implementation of a statewide a:.ltomated fir:gerprint system that could be accessed by local law enforcement ag~n(;.ies. This bill apprcpria~ed $7, OOG,{JDD to tbe Department of Justice for the purchase of e~ipITIent and service6 to cre3te this Statewide system. The bill also provided procedures for lo~al government to receive equipment based upon a sharing of costs with the State. The State paid 70 percent of the cost of the purchaso: of the equipment. All other costs for imple­ menting local systems are the responsibility of local government. To be eligible to participate -3. n this State'N"i::h; prograrr, and tc receive the 70 percent matching grant feom the State, eac~ county was required to form a local pol':'c:y board.
