The Palo Alto Centennial 1994~ Inc. net-for-profit corporation has
been e.stablished by private citizens appointed by the City counci 1
to plan tl"le Centennial c~lebr.ation. There are presently-21 citizen
members of the centennial Board of Directors. Vice Maior Rniss
seLVeo::, .a~ city Council Liaison to the Board. Recreation
Superintendent John Williams is the City staff liaison to the Board
and Recreation Supervisor Susan Churcher is providing program staff
s.upport for the Centennial special events. The City Council h;3.s
provided fi~ndncial, staff and other assistance to the centennial
Bcard.
The City Councll is the appointing ,3'Jthority for the Ce:rtennial
Board of Director':$.. The City council also has the authority to
remove members from the Board of Directors at any time.
The Board of Directors unanimously req~ested at its May 6, 1993
meeting that the Cit}' Council appoint b.,o Palo Alto residents to
fill two of the vacant seats on the Board of Dirctors. The two
persons ncminated by the Board of Directors are Beth Martin and
Gail Woolley (resumes attached). The Board believes that both
individuals can and ·""ill maY.e significant contributions t"o the
s .... ccess of the Palo Alto Centennial effort.
