A..., application for a permit to demolish the buJlding lOCated at 533
Bryant Street .... as received on April 23 ~ 1993. This building is
designated Category 4 {contributing) in the Historic InYentory L::st
and is located in t,he University Avenue Business District.
The structure is severely deteriorated and is not habitable as a residence.
The Historic Freservation Ordinance (Section 16.49.070) requires
Council notification and imposes an automatic 60 day moratorium on
the granting of the demolition permit. The application will be
reviewed by the Historic Resources Board on ~ay 51 1993. The Board
or any inter~sted person may recommend that the Council extend the
moratorium up to a maximUlIl of ene i'ear.

I have inspet'tco the house at 533 B!)'a."'i! Street, Palo Aho, California. The house is
I-story, wood consrruction, and is in generally poor condition.
My opinion is that the house is unsafe to OCCIJPy for the foilowL."1g reasons.:
1. The bciJding has no foundation. Wood Si1l5 sit directly
on th~ groUI1 d.
2. The CTawl space has only srraigh! sheathing around the perimeter.
This type: of construction gene.ra!Jy performs poorly, especially
duriTlg seismic e .... ents.
3. Settl.:meil! has caused e ... tensive de.erioralioc of floor, will
and ceiling finishes.
4. Plumbl.ng and elC(:; trica! sys.tems are nO( an iifeii of personal
expertise, however, these sJs:ems appear 10 be in the same
deteriorated State as the rest of the srrucrure.
It is iilsc my opinion tl,at the structure canrd. be moved for-the following reasons.:
1 . Because of the structural deficiencies note.d above, the house \l.'ili

2. Acce~s to the house j~ lirnited 10 a ftill:eil foot wide alley. r.,·loving
