Report in Brief
This report requests that Council award a contract in the amount of
$47,500.00 to west Valley construction Company, Inc. for page Mill
Road Boring at Hanover Street. In addition, staff recommends that
council authorize the city Manager or her designee to execute one
or more change orders to the co~tract with West Valley Construction
compai1y~ Inc. of Can-,pbell, California for additional relate.d, but
unforeseen work. The value of these char.ge ord.ers shall nc-Jt exceed
$4,750.00. Funds for this project will be taken from the FY 1992-
93 capital Improvement Program Budget for Gas Main Re~lacements~

The existing steel and plastic gas mains in the intersection of
Page Mill Road and Hanover street are being replaced by City crews.
The County of Santa Clara requires the city to bore under Page
Mill Road, since they do not allo~ open trenching across a County
expressway_
Project Description
Install a 12"" caSing under Page Mill Road at Hanover-by the jack
and bore method.. The contractor shall excavate the boring and
receiving pits, and provide all shoring and traffic control
required. After removing the ~ring equipment from the bore pit,
the contractor shall leave shoring in place \o'hile ttle City installs
an S· PE gas main in the 12" casing. The City will ba~kfill the
boring and receiving pits, and restore the asphalt pavement~

The project was sent out to competitive bid. Bids were received
from two bidders on April 1. 199J. as indicated on the attached bid

amount or $47,500.00 for the Page Mill Road Boring at Hanover

execute ona or-more: chiS.nqe ordE'lrs to the construction contract
with West Valley Construction company, Inc. of Campbell,
California, the value of these change orders shall not exceed
$4,750.00.
