Members of the Council:
The purpose of this report is to ~equest Council's approval of an
ordinance amending the budget for fiscal year 1993-94 to reflect
five f'ee deposits of $1,000 each tor a total of $5.000. The fee
deposits .. as per the traveling exhibition contract for uM.3.rriage In
Fo~,· are from the ~ive venues participating in the tour. They
are as follovs: Arkansas Arts Center, Little Rock, AR; Tampa Museum
of Art$ Tampa, FL; The For~m of contemporary Art, st. Louis, MO;
Renwick Gallery of the National Museum, S:ollithsonian Institution,
Washinqton, D.C. ~ and KUSEiU151 of Art, Rhode Island School of Design,
Providence. R.I.

A grant from The National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency,
has been awarded to the exhibition, uMarriaqe In Form,· throuqh the
Visual Arts program. This has allo~ed for a nationwide traveling
exhibition 4 nationwide. The tour 'Will run through 15'195 (a two year
period) • The exhibition is a 30 year retrospectiv-e of two of
American crafts' foremost ~aster artists. Kay seki~achi and Bob
stocksdale are icons of Amarican craft. 'l'bey have lived and worked
in the San Francisco Say Area since the 1940's, end their lives and
art are roote,d in the pacific Ri!ll. -Marriage Ir.: FOn\~" along 'With
the accompanying catalogue, makes a major contributicn to t...'le
history of American craft. The -exhibition contin1.les l:he Division's

The traveling exhibition fee per venue is $2.000. The receipt of
a deposit or $1,000 per venue will occur within ~~e current fiscal
year. FUnds 'Will provide for the crating of the exhibition,
supplies and materials necessa~ for traveling, signage and credit
panels for the exhibition, press packets, and outreach and public
relations materials4 The funds necessary to develop and implement
the traveling exhibition have been budgeted in the Visual Arts
program budget for 1993-19094, with the awardE!-d fund~ from the.
National Endowment for th~ Arts. and are anticipated in the Visual
Arts program budget for 1994-1995, with the balance of pay"m.ents
from the participating venues.

ORDINANCE NO.
ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING THE SUDGET FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1993-94
TO PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION TO
THE ARTS AND CULTURE DIVISION'S VISUAL ARTS PROGRAM AND
TO RECEIVE FEE DEPOSITS FOR A TRAVELING ART EXHIBITION
WHEREAS, pur&uant to the provisions of Section 12 of Article
IZI of the ChartEr ot the city or Palo Alto, the Council on June
21, 1993 did adopt a budget ror fiscal year 1993-94; and
WHEREAS, council appropria.ted National Endowment for the Arts
(NEA) grant funds for the RMarriage in Form" traveling art
exhibition program on October lS, 1993; and
WHEREAS, the Visual Arts program has determined the l' i ve venue
sites that will be receivinq the traveling arts exhibition and is
ready to receive required deposit fees from the venue sites;
NOW, THSREFORE, the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
ORD~N as follows:

SECTION 3. As specified in Section 2.28.080(a) of the Palo
Alto Municipal Code, a tWo-thirds vote of the City council is
required to adopt this ordinance.

that the enactment of this ordinance is not a project uncler the
C4.lifornia Environmental QUality Act a.nd, therefore, no environmen
