Ba.ckgr ound In FY 1991-92, Council approved an agreement for $35. ooe with schirmer Engineering corporation for design services to install a fire sprinkler protection system in the Civic Center and to upgrade the ex)sting fire alarm system. The ag~eement made provision for constructior. phase services ~hich would be awarded at the conclusion of the design. Consultant shall provide a fuli bid package for a fire sprinkler and alarm syste~ at the civic Center~ This design shall incorporate the existing system with the new to meet all applicable cO<!es and standards. This work shall be completed over a four month period beginning with a notice to proceed. Consultant shall survey the building and provide a written r~port of its findings along with options for installation of the sprinkler system and fire alarm system. 'rhis report will also address e~ergency power requirements, fire pump type and location, fire extinguisher locations., an ex'tinguishing system for the second floor compu.ter room and water supply requirements. Preliminary/conceptual sketches for the systems will also be provided at this time. consultant shall meet w·ith th'f! City to discuss the report and assist the city in selecting the approach and scope of work to t'oe pursued. Once city has selected the scope of work to be developed, Consultant shall proceed to the desiqn development phase. Under this phase of work, Consultant shall develop the construction drawinqs, preliminary specification.s, pre] iminary calculations, and cost estimates, and shall submit them to City for review. Consultant shall as~ist City in arranging fer any necessary tee:ting (water flow~ x-ray, etc.) during this phase~ CUring the Final Development Phase, Consultant shall complete the drawings to show sprinkler locations J all. piping, and diameter of pipes, pipe routing, seismic bracing, all alarm system components, devices, and conduit routing, location of the fire pump~ fire pump enclosure J all piping and conduit to fire pump, and any nec~ss&ry electrical drawings~ Consultant shall complete the technical specifications in CSI format with bid paqes provided ~y City, and complete all hydraulic calculations. Consultant snaIl provide drawings to submit for a building permit and shall make clarifications and CI'langes to the design package as required durir.g the permit process. Consultant shall provide one set of all drawings, reports, etc. at each review phase throughout the project. Consultant shall provide 3 sets for permit process.
