Report ir: Brief
The purpose of this report is to req'.lest Council's approval of an
ordinance amanding the budget for fiscal year 1992-93 to reflect
the award of a $9,230 matChing grant from the california Arts
counci~ Organizational Support Program to the Arts and CUlture
Division's visual Arts Program.

The California Arts Counci 1 has a· .... arded grants to the CuI turaJ
Ceilt.er since 1985. For the first three years, these 9Z"ants we::e in
support of the Master Artists Serie,;;. In fiscal years since 1988-
89 and in the current f~ seal yea-r. these funds have been designated
for general operating support, vith the aim of strengthening the
quality and visibility of the exhibition and education program, and
thereby increasing the audience for the Visual Arts. Since thE
first grant was received in 1985-86, progl'all'l a~tendance has grown
from 54,000 to :7,000 last year. '1'nc planned enhance.rnent of Visual
Arts programs for 1992-93 wi11 continue this trend.
The Califorr>.ia Arts COUncil Grant provides -matching funds fDr
exhibitions, equitable artistsl and ]~cture fees, outreach and
public relations 1l1at<:!rials, and workshop/studio suppli~s and
materidls. The funds necessary to match the grant ha.ve been
budgeted in the Visual Arts Program budget for 1992-93.

ORDINANCE OF THE COUNCE" OF THE CITY OF PALO ALTO
AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR THE' FISCAL YE..a..R 1992-93 TO PROVIDE AN
ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION TO THE AR'rs A.. ..... D CULTURE DIVISION'S VISTJAL
ARTS PROGR.A.."! .AND TO RECEIVE MATCHING GRANT Ft-TNDS
WHEREAS, pursuant to the ~~ovisions of section 12 of Article
III of the ct.arter of the City of Paolo Alto, the Council on June
21, 1992 did adopt a budget for fiscal year 1992-93; and
WHEREAS, the California Arts Council provides matching grant
funds for exhibitions, equitable artists' fees, ~utreach and public
rp.lations materials; and
WHEREAS, the Palo Alto cultural Center has been awarded the
grant since 1985 to support the Master Artists Series program and
to enhance: the quality and visibility of the Visual Arts programs;
and
WHEREAS, the necessary fundinq to match the grant is available
in the Visual Arts 1992-93 operating budget;
NOW, THEREFORE'. the Council of the City of Palo Alto does
OROAIN as follows:
SECTION 1 ~ The sum of Nine Thousand Two Hundred Thirty
Dollars ($9~230) is hereby appropriated to the Visual Arts program
of the Arts and Culture Division~ and Gra~t Revenue is correspond
ingly increased~

SECTION~. The council of the city of Palo Alto hereby finds
that the enactment of this ordinance is not a project under the
California Environmental Quality Act and, therefore, no environmen
tal impact assessment is necessary~
