This is an informational report and does not require Council action~
Tbe purpose of this report is to provide the council with an update on
the actions taken to date to implement the 1992-93 structural
modifications as approved in CMR:414:92.

The Alnericans wi t.h Disa.bilities Act Transition Plan was approved by
Council on September 14, 1992. The structural modifications reco~ended
for FY 1992-93 were:
1. Re-stripe all City ~acilitiee, as required, to provide adequate
disabled parking.
2. Repair exterior routes including curb ramps, as required, at all
City facilities.
3. Revie .... signage at ~ll City facilities ano. correct or replace
signage as required.
Implementation Up4at.
The re-stripinq of City faoilities for disabled parking is scheduled to
begin in April or gay. Public Works Op~rations engineering staff is
reviewing all 27 pl1blic parking facilities. and 41 City facilities to
develop drawings t~ issue a bid for the re-striping work.
Public Works Operations and Facilities Management have been working with
the ADA Director to develop specifications for the repair to passenger
loading zones, exterior rout.es and building/facility entrances at 53
facilities, a= identified in Attachment A --1992/93 ADA Estimated Cost
Breakdown". Operations issued a bid package the second veek in February
W'ith bids due the ena of the month. once the bid has been awarded,
Public Works Opera~ions Division ~ill begin the layout for sidewalk and
curb replacement in the College Terrace area~

An architectural firm ~as hired to develop d~awlngs and specifications
tor exterio~ routes and door improvements. Design should be completed
by the end of March, et which time they ,..111 qo to bid ot thl!
C 91truction contract. Facilities Rehahilitation will also issue a
r-_..lest for proposal to hire a design consulta.nt to revie-", the siqnage
requirements at all City facilities as identified in the Transition
Plan~ The consultant Ilielection 'Will be forwarded to the Policy and

The ADA Selt-EValuations of City programs, service&. and activities have
been cOlDPleted and compared against the Transitior. Plan re:commendaticns.

Plan as a result of the self-evaluation~. The pool at l:::inconada Park is
not accessible to people with mopility izpairments or developmental
disabilities; and that project will be adde~ to the Transition Plan~
The nacessary fundinq to imple~ent the id2ntified self-evaluation
improvements will be incorpo~ated in eecond and third year ADA
Compliance capitol Improvement Progr~m or appropriate FY 1993-94
operatinq budgets as part of the interim budget process.
The ADA Directoz::' continues to consider requests for accolt!:lodations or
~odifications on an individual basis durinq the Transition Plan
implementation, to aS5ure ~~Qt ~ll requests have been covered in the
Plan or a reasonable solution is re~ched.
