BOULEVARQ Members of the Council: This is an inform~tional report. No Council action is required. On July 27~ ~99?', the City Council endorsed the implementation of the Briant street Bicycle Boulevard e~tension, including the award of a construction contract. That work is now und~rway. The project is to include the i~stallation of a tempo~ary street clasure on Bryant Street, for-a six-month trial period. The street closure is to be placed at Location A (betW'een Chanr.ing and Addison), as opposed to Location 0 (between Addison and Lincoln) or other locations that were considered during the study process (see Attachment 1). In CMR:323:92, dated July 2~ 1992, the location of the street closure was more precisely described as being near the south boundary of the parking lot for the Urgent Care Center, and shown at a location south of both driveways which lead into the Urgent. ~are Center parking lot (see Attachment 2). In response to concerns expressed by representatives of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation and others, staff has reconsidered the. precise location of the street closure, in relation to access to the Urgent Ca~e Center, and concluded that it would be better to install the temporary street closure between the two driveways that lead into thE parking lot of the Urgent Care Center, rather th,3n immecUately /South of both dr; ve'Ways. This location is also acceptable to the Palo Alto Wursing Center. Locating the temporary street closure between the two drive\olays provides visi~ors to the Urgent Care Center with better access from the south. While there is some possibility of traffic cutting through the parking lot, the probability of this being a ~erious CMR:400;92 • problem is very loy, due to the fact that it offers no apparent advantage over existing City streets. In o!lIddition, representatives of the Pale Alto Medical Foundation have exp~es5ed the view that the issue of access is more important than the issue of traffic cutting through th. parking lot. They als~ expressed that they would 'Work 'With City staft to address t.he problem, if it does materialize. Therefore, the temporary street closure has been installed on Bryant street, between the two driveways serving the parking lot c,f the U~gent Care Center, for the six-month trial period4 Respectfully submitted, ~ ~//~/ !!ARVIN L.
