On July 16, 1990, the Council approved a PTanned Co~un;ty {PC} Zone for tne
former ~aelel Build~~9 at SZ9 Bryant Str~~t. Ihe PC zone oI1~~ed for the
ground floor of the building to be offices instead of the normally required
Ground Floor (GFJ retai1. ~.5 -! public banefit for the PC lone, the applicant
offered to make certain improvements to He Chtic Center Plaza Hat would
enhance the pedestrian environment. ihi~ included the addition of steps along
the Bryant and Ramona Street sides of the Plazi at a cost not to exceed
$iSO,OOO. The proposed improvements have been reviewed by the Urban Design
C~ittee and approved by the Rrchitectural Review Board.
The project is a public/pri .... ete partnership in which Jim Baer, the develo'per~
has been responsible for preparing the plans, obtaining a c~ntractor and ~ill
oversee construction. The construction permit was issu€d August 25 and
construction began August 25, with preliminary acti~ities related to removal
of existing randsc:aping in tile areas to be t'edevelcped with steps. DemC'lition
ind excavation will be~in the first week in Septe~ber and construction should
be completed by mid-October.
