Progress Report on Council Directives Req~rc5:i,.Jlg Skat.eboard FacilIty'

On September 9, 1951, Council gave staff several directives
regarding operation of the skateboard facility at Greer Park~ On
October 24, 1991, staff provided council with an update as to
progress toward accomplishment of those directives~ The purpose of
this report is to provide Council with a furth~r update regarding
the skatehoard facility. No Council action is required.

On October 24, 1991, staff reported progress to the Council on the
following directives:
1. Reduction in hours of operation at the skateboard facility
during school hours;
2. Increased hours of use for younger and less proficient
skaters: and
3~ Reduction in the number of skaters using the bowl at anyone
time.
The following information is a furtner up<!ate of progress made
toward accvmp1ishment of those dit"ectives:

A six-foot security fence ~as installed. As a result, night
security has been discontinued.
The reduced hours, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. during ~eekdays, were
implemented upon co~pletion of the fencing. On weekends, the
facility is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Temporary siqns
are in place stating these new hours. Permanent signs will be
installed by November 22.
3. Implem.an.tation of the increased hours for younger skaters has
been well-receiveQ. As the ~arm ~eather continues, the level
of weekend use remains high i staff reports a substantial
increase in the number of young skaters.

staff is working to re::::po:ld to all of the September 9 directives
and will report back to Council in early Dec~mber on progress
toward accomplis~ment of all directives. staff also is continuing
to pursue the possibility of contracting .... ith a private concession
aire to operate the facility. Andy Shute, .... ho has addressed the
Council, continues to e~ress interest. Staff is ~orking .... ith Mr.
Shute in an attempt to get a formal p~oposal.
