Report in Brief
This report reccmmends that Courocil award a contract to The
Wackenhut CorporatioOl in the amount cf $2; 597 ~ 50 per month for
security services at thE City's Municipal Ssrvice center (MSC) ~
The contract was bid for 31 months, for a total a!!10IJnt of
$80,522~SO, in order to change the tern, to a f'iscal year basis.
FUnds have been appropriated in the Public WDrks and Uti 1 i ties
Departments' FY 1991-92 operating budgets for the remainder of this
fiscal year~ Funding for the balance of the contract is contingent
upon council approval of budgets for subsequent years~
Discussion
In order to provide security at the MSC, the city contracts for
staffing of the gate house by a uniformed attandant. The securitl'~
attendant's responsibilitjes i~clude unlocking/locking the gates,
screening visitors and confirming their appointments., and foot
patrol. The presence of a security attendant has prevented
unauthorized persons from entering the yard, <, ... hich acts as a
deterrent to theft~
Bids were received from three qualified contractors as sho~n on the
attache~ summary. Staff recommends that the bid of $2~597.50 per
D<onth for ". total of $31,170 per year, submitted by The wackenhut
corporation, be det.ermined by Council to be the lo+west responsible
bid and that the contract be awarded accordingly. The total cost
for the term of the contract is $aQ,522~50~

Staff recommends that Council:
1. Approve aDd authorize the Mayor to execute the attached
contract with The "..iackenhut Corporation, in the amDunt of
$80,522.50 for the term of the contract, for security services
at the Municipal Ser .... ice Center.

2. Authorize the City Manager or his designee to negotiate and
execute one or more change orders to the contract with The
wackenhut corporatio~( the value of all of which change orders
shall not exceed $12,000 for the term of the contract.
