This report requests that Council award a contract in the amount of
$25,000 to Camb~ic Graphics Limited for the diqitizing of utility
maps into editable computer {CAD) fermat for use by our engineers
in designing utilities ca.pi tal Improvement Projects ~ Funds for
this project are available in the FY 91-92 Capital Improvement
Program (eIP) budq~ts for water, gas, and wastewater.
Background
The design of Capital Improvement Projects involves hand digitizing
eJ£istinq hard copy utility maps into a computer (CAD) format.
Contracting these services to computer graphics firms is cost
effective when compared to ti1.e cost of digitiz ing tne maps in
house. These firms are specialized in ~he digitizing business and
can produce the dra~ings in significantly less time.

A contract with Cambric Graphics Limited ,.,°i11 provide digitizing
services, on an as-needed basi£, of utility ~aps into a computer
format for design of Capital Improvement proJects. Funds for these
services are available in the FOi 1991-92 water, gas, and waste .... ater

Bid Eyaluation
The project was sent out for competitiv2 bi~. Bids were received
from four qualified bidders on 5eptemD~r 4, 1991, as indica~ed cn
the attached bid summary. The bids ranqed fr~m a low of $160/sheet
to a hiqh of $750/sheet. The engineer's estimate vas $300jsheet.
Staff finds the low bidder to be qualified to perform the lI.'ClrJc.
Recommendation
staff recammends that Council:
1. Authorize the Kayor to execute a contract ~ith cambric
Graphics Limited, in the amount of $25,000, for the computer
digitizinq of utility maps.
