This report recommends that Council approve .l)..'Tlend:rnent No. .1 to
Consultant Agreement Nc:;. C0019099 with CH2M Hill California, Inc. ~
in the atnount of $]00,000 for additional storm drain pipeline.
cleaning for the Storm Drainage System Condition Assess~ent
Project. Funds have been appropriated in CIP 47702, Collection
System Improve~ents.
Background
In May 19S1, council approved an agreement ~ith CR2M Hill
California, Inc. to perform a condition assessment of the City's
ex.isting storm drainage system (CMR:269:91} ~ The scope of the
agreement includes video inspection of underground pipelines f
manholes and catch basins to identify system defect~ and
recorumendations for rehabilitation or replacement methods. Since
it ~as anticipated that some pipelines would need to be cleaned
p~ior to televisinq, $50 1 000 was included in the additional
services portion of the agreement for pipeline cleaning~
P-iscussion
Attached is a_n amendment to the agreement vith CH2M Hill
Cdlifornia, Inc. in the amount of" $100,000 for additional storm
drain pipeline cleaning. Although the pipes inspected thus far are
generally in qood physical condition, the amount of sediment and
debris in the pipes has been significantly greater th.an
anticipated. Staff has authorized cleanin-; only for those pipes
tnat cannot be televised in t~ei~ current condition, due to reduced
clearance caused by debris. Public Works Ope::-ations staff will
perform as much of the cleaning as their ongoing maintenance
workload schedule perr.1.i ts. A."I1,wdment No. 1 \ld 11 cover the
estimated remaining cost of the pipe cleaning ~o be perforne~ by
the consultant. In addition to permitting passage of the TV
camera, the pipeline cleaning viII reduce future city maintenance
costs and provide improved drainage~

Quality Act (Ct::QA) under Section 15061(b} (3) of the CEQA
Guidelines.
Staff recommends that Council approve and authorize the Mayor to
execute Amendment No. 1 to Consultant Agreement No. CQ019099 .ith
CH2M Hill California, Inc'l in the amount or $100 1 000 for
additional storm drain pipe.line cleaning for che storm Drainage
system Condition Assessment Project.
