C~nsultant Agreement Ke:!lbers of the council: Report in Brief This report Tequests that Council authori~e the Mayor to execute the attached Amendment No.2 to Consultant Agree:ment~ C-55986, with Forell/Elsesser Engineers, Inc .• in the amount of $25,000 for construction management services for' the Police wing Structural Modifications for a total contract price of $199~ 000. Funds for these services a;:-e budgeted in the Police Wing struct'J.ral Hodifications l elF 1B508. BacKgt.Q!Jnd The Council approved Consultant Contract No. C-55986, for architectural and structural engineering services~ with Forell/ Elses~er Er.gineer$~ Inc. in March 199J 'CMR:213:~) and Amendment No. 1 for construction manage:ment services in November 1991 (CMR:510:91) for the Police Wing structural Modifications. The services included developing alternate design concepts~ preparing construction plans, specifications and a cost estimate, assisting in obtaining bids and ~onitoring construction ectivities~ Under the consultant agree.ment, construction was anticipated to occur betlllreen January and July 1992. HO\>lever, there has been a delay on completing the work due to difficulties encountered in installing ne\rl reinforcing steeL The proposed construction increases the structural rigidity of the Police wing, by adding steel reinforcement to the existing colUmn3 in the parking levels of the building. Unfortunately, it has taken longer than axpeeted to find a clear location -within the cQl\l::nns to place the ne. re.inforcement. The contractcr J through recent X-rays: of the cclumns l has solved the problemi and construction is expected to be completed by october 1992. Amendment No. 2 extends construction management services with Forell/Elsesser Engineers, Inc. from August to October to cover the additional three months of work. The cost includes project -1- CMR:369: 92 7 - management, processing change information and shop dra~ingsl meetings, making f ieJ d revie .... s estimates. orders, reviewing contractor attending .... t:ekly construction ar.d overseeing progress pay This project is categorj cally exempt from Emriromnental Quality Act (CECA) under Section facilities, ~lass 1, minor alteration to existing CEQA Guidelines. Recommenclation the California 15301, existing facility, of the staff rec.ommends that CO"o.lncil approve and authorize the !"fayor to execute attached Amendment No~ 2, to Consultant Agreement C-55996, with Forell/Elsesser Engineers, Inc., in the amount of $25,000 for construction management services.
