Report in Brief
This report recommends that Council award a construction contract
to Mongird Construction in the arnou~t of ~29,978 to widen the fire
station appar~'tu! doors at }'ire stations 3 and 4. Funds have been
appropriated in CIP 18915, Fire Station Overhead Door Modification.
Background
As part of the 198B-93 and 1989-94 Capital Improvement Program
budgets, COUncil approved a total of $60,000 for elP 18915 to widen
and improve the apparatus doors at Fire stations 3 and 4. These
improvements are necessary to increase the clearance between the
existing door frames and fire truck apparatus from 1 1/2 inches to
approximately 12 inches. This modification will reduce the
possibility of damage occurring to fire vehicles enterir:.g and
exiting th~ station.
Discussion
Bids were received from seven qualified contractors as shown on the
attached bid summary. Staft recommends that the bid of $29,978
submitted by Mongird Construction be determined by Council to be
the lowest responsible bid and the contract awarded accordingly.
This bid is 24 percent below the engineer's estimate of $39 r 600.
Construction is scheduled to occur bet\o'een November and DcccrnbE'.r

Recomme.ndations
Statf. recommends that Council:
1. Approve and authorize the Mayor to execute the attached
ccntract with Monqird Constr~ction in the amount of $29,978
for the Fire station Overhead Door Modification Project.
2. Authorize the city Manager or his design~e to negotiate and
execute one or more change orders to th~ construction contract
with Monqird construction, the value of all of which change
orders shall not exceed $4,500.

its officers, agents, and elrtploy.ees from any and all demands, clai!D.s or
liability of any nature, caused by or arising out of Contrac'cor's, its
officers', agents', or employees' negligent acts, errors, or o~issions,
or willful misconduct, or conduct for which the la .... imposes strict
liability en Contractor in the perfor~ance or failure to perform this

8. This Agreement represents the entire Agreement bet.ween the parties ""ith
respect to the purchase and sale of the equipment, materials, or
supplies or paymant for services which may be the subject of this
Contract~ All prior agreements, representations, staterner.ts, negotia

9. No payment, partial payment, acceptance, ~['" partial acceptance by City
shall operate es waiver on the part of city of any of its rights under
this contract.
10, Contractor agrees to permit CITY to audit, at any reasonable time during
the term of this Agreement and for ~hree (3) years thereafter,
Contractor's records pertaining to matters covered by this Agreement.
Contractor further agrees to maintain such records for at least three
(3} years afte-r the term of this Agree-l'l'.ent.
