INTEREST INCOME Interest income on an accrual basis for the month <If May was $873,112 and for the first ~leyen months of 1991-92 totalled 59.4 ~i'lion, 91 percent of the annual target of S10.35 million. On a ca,h basis, receipts totalled $940,201 for May 3nd $9.5 million year to date, ~9RTFOL!O TnI!' par value of the City's portfolio is approximately $148 mnlion~ which consists of S94 minion, or 64 percent, matLiring witnin two years. Most of the investments, $J22 million, or 82 percent~ are ir. United States G{lverr:~nt Securities. n"e ClJrr~nt market value of the portfolio is 101.4 percent of cast. lHIEREST RATES AND INVESTMENTS In May, staff invested $10 million in, three-year U. S. Agency Notes, at an average return of 5.91 percent. Staff also invested $2 million in a Certificate of Deposit at a rate of 4.45 percent. Short-term inter~st ri!tes have been declirdr.g, while the two-t<l-ten-year rates have remained baSically unchanged. The fallowing graph shows that for the last s;x months, investments in the two-to-three-years range optimize the rate of return. Staff has invested in two and three-year U. S.
