SupervisQry Control and Data Acquisition System (SCAD~
Software Maintenance contract
Members of the Council:
This report requ9sts that council app~ove and authori~e the Maycr
to execute the attached contract with the firm of J.P. Services,
for performance of required software maintenilnce for the City's
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA Systemj.
The cost for this contract ..-ill be '$20, OOJ. 00 and tl"le funds are
available in the F~ 1992-1993 Electric Operating Budget.
Background
The utilities Department SCADA System is used p~imarilY to monitor
and control the electric transmission and distribution systems, and
is located at the utilities Control Center~ The SCADA System was
originally designed, purchased from and installed by the consulting
finn of Landis and Gyr, 'l1sing hardware and software components
approveQ by L~e City.
J.P. Ser~ices has been the software and database contractor for the
City ot Palo Alto Electric Operations' SCADA System for the last 4
years. They have 18 years experience working with SCADA systems
and have a history of provic:Unq excellent r-esponse to our r-equests.
J.P. services has a thorough understanding of our SCADA system and
is currently in the process of compiling a report program for use
by Utilities Engineering and Substation staff.
The programs and support involved are critical to the operation of
the system and must be maintained or. a regular basis.
