Report in Brief
This report presents an up1ate on the Disability Awareness Task
Force video, "Good Intentions -MistaXen ASEumptions J
n which was
shovn to the City Council on February 24, 1992.
Piscussion
A subcommittee of the Disability A~areness Task Force developed,
directed and produced a unique video called "Good Intentions -
Mistaken Assumptions.-The video was created to help teachers from
K-12 classes lrlainstream students 'With disAt>ilities into their
general education classes.
However, ~~e universal nature of the video has lent itself to a
far-reaching audienc~i a~ it has been utilized in ~any different
forums. The City has used the video as a sensitivity awareness
training: tool for im.plementation of the Americans wit'h. Disabi lities
Act (ADA). Other juriSdictions have also requested copies for
their employee training neees.
For anyone who has seen the video, it cornes as no surprise that it
has produced a vert positive effect in the local cGmmunity. The
positive impact has broadened as the video has been awarded the
SilVer Apple Award by the National Ed'Jcation Film and Video
Festival. This is a second place a~ard in a competition frem a
field consisting of over 1#300 educational film and videc projects
nationwide.
The A~ard 'Will be presented in a ceremony in Oakland on Saturday,
May 23, in the middle of the National Education Film and video
Festival Week which takes place from May 20 to May 25~

headed the Task Force :~:.ubco::trnittee ,"'hich produced the video, other
members 0: the TasK Fore>; who assisted ""it!": this project, Suz-anne
Richards, the City Liaison to the Task Force, and Dr. Irv Rollins
from the Falo Alto unified School District, , .• ho initiated the
project. Thi.s is an outstanding colla.borative effort.
